My family (hubby and two sons, 8 and 11) were in Chicago for the weekend. We were at the Cloud Gate when suddenly there were 100 very cheery Santa's! They got candy and toys and were thrilled to pieces! Listening to the song lyrics, it was clear you were all having fun... but everybody was great. It was such a fun surpise that we will always remember.
Thanks! Shelley in Peoria

I'm trying to finalize 3 songs that we'll sing...any input is welcome.
Here is what I'm looking at
LET IT FLOW (tune of "Let It Snow") The weather outside is frightful, but the beer inside's delightful. And since we've no place to go, Let it Flow, Let it Flow, Let it Flow! Oh we show no signs of stopping, and now we're really hopping. And the lights are turned way down low. Let it Flow, Let it Flow. Let it Flow!! When we finally drink it dry, how we hate going back to the store. Maybe we'll just get high, and all fall asleep on the floor!! Oh the party is slowly dying. And our friends have all stopped buying. Now my bladder really wants to know. Where to go, Where to go, Where to go???
DECK MY BALLS Deck my balls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la. Tap the keg, inflate the dolly, Fa la la la la, la la la. Don we now our rubber panties, Fa la la la la, la la la. We're a bunch of twisted Santies, Fa la la la la, la la la. Naughty girls are such a treasure, Fa la la la la, la la la. These North Poles were made for pleasure, Fa la la la la, la la la. Fucked the elves, fucked all the reindeer, Fa la la la la, la la la. *** the cookies, bring us COLD BEER! Fa la la la la, la la la.
HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS Here comes a Santa Claus, There goes a Santa Claus Right down Michigan Ave-nue! Many are weaving, some are heaving, that one’s missing teeth!! Amidst the red suited whirlwind, one flashed my girlfriend, That just doesn't seem right. But as they say, it'll be OK, Coz Santa Claus came tonight!” (pelvic thrust at "came tonight") [Verse is then softly hummed by group as we introduce ourselves. Then we all sing together:] "But as they say, it'll be OK, Coz Santa Claus came tonight!" (pelvic thrust at "came tonight")
WE WISH YOU A MERRY XMAS (Repeat, repeat, and repeat as often as necessary and with staunch determination until desired result is achieved) We wish you a merry Xmas, We wish you a merry Xmas, We wish you a merry Xmas Now bring us some beer. We won't go until we get some, We won't go until we get some, We won't go until we get some So bring some right here.

In anticipation of a larger turn out, we have enhanced the route to consider potentially overcrowded or to capacity bars/restaurants.
Please check out the route information: Route
You will notice two things: MEETING PLACES and headings like GEAR UP, CELEBRATE, RECHARGE, etc.
MEETING PLACES. These will be staging areas where everyone will meet before we begin our procession to our next stop.
GEAR UP, CELEBRATE, RECHARGE, QUICK DRINK. These will be groups of bars that are suggested stopping places. The first one listed in the grouping has been notified of us stopping there. If or when the first one is too crowded please check out the following ones.
If the group does get broken up then meet at the next MEETING PLACE listed.
The best part of Santacon is interacting with the public, the bars are just a break from the walking.
Please check out the route information: Route
If any questions or concerns, let me know sooner than later.

Everyone,
It sounds like this year's SantaCon is going to be the largest yet. With such a large crowd my voice will not be able carry. Does anyone have a bull horn I can borrow or know of any where I can get a cheap one (other than ebay)?
With that said....it loooks like we might have use the HIGH CAPACITY PLAN!!! More to come on that in another post.
Does anyone know of a Mariachi Band that could play for an hour outside in the afternoon? (This goes along with the HIGH CAPACITY PLAN)

Santa's Guidelines:
IT'S A LONG DAY, SO BE PREPARED. Here's some tips to keep your sleigh running.
- Eat something.
Santa is responsible for his own feeding! This is Chicago -- if reindeer can figure it out, so can you.
- Stay hydrated & pace yourself.
Try some water in between your milk and cookies.
- Bring CASH!
Santa doesn't like waiting while hundreds of santa are waiting for a bartender to open a credit card.
- Santa is responsible for his own inebriation.
SantaCon is NOT a bar crawl -- it's a convention. There will be bar stops, but they will be VERY crowded. Santa does not advocate breaking open container laws! Santa's just sayin'...
- Pay your own damn bar tab and tip bartenders well for putting up with Santa.
- Dress warm.
Wear layers so you'll be comfortable anywhere from the North Pole to the strippers' pole.
- Stay with the group. Santa is not texting. Santa is not updating his location. If a Santa drunkenly wanders off or misses the 1pm start, he will have to know a friendly Santa to call and help them.
- Don't be "that" Santa.
Your friends want to have fun, not scrape the puke outta your beard or prevent your wasted ass from wandering into traffic.
- Santa does not make children cry (unless they whine, snivel, or otherwise deserve it).
Really - If you see kids, give them nice toys, candy, or something pleasant.

It's time to get that suit, costume, or whatever you call it out of storage. See if you need a new one, or maybe you feel like you have some creative zest in you....anyway you look at it, you have 30 some days to find or come up with your outfit.
If you are looking for a santa suit...you could order from the dozens of places on the internet. If you want to buy locally...Party City has been a good source.
People if you find good places...please post them on the forum section for others to see.

The offical route has been finalized! We had to take in account this year there will probably more people so we had to add some new stops and remove some old ones. The first goal was to have as many interactions with the public as possible. Second goal was to make sure we when stop, the establishments could handle the crowds.

So to make this a bit more interesting, I am wondering if any of you creative types could come up with some interesting type of gag, stunt, flashmob, etc. We will be singing carols again this year so that already on the schedule.
Let me know if you come up with anything.

Here are some questions to start....
1) Last Stop - Is Division Street a good place to end SantaCon?
2) Landmarks/Events - Is there any significant landmarks or events that we should have the route go to?
3) Route suggestions - Does anyone have new ideas?
4) Open forum - Let me know what you think. This will only make it better.
Please let me know.
Thanks for your time,

Ok, so the last "What is SantaCon?" might have been a yawner. It does do show that SantaCon doesn't offend, but rather enlightens.
Now check out this short movie: here . This is the Portland Santacon of 1996. A bit more exciting.

People always want to know "What is this Santacon thing?", and it's always interesting to tell people an answer.
Last year the New York Times' reporter Bill Cunningham wrote an interactive piece that best explains : Click here to view.

The first planning meeting will be held Thursday October 15th at 7pm at Rossi's 412 N. State St. (North of the House of Blues)
The plan is to talk about the route and bars to go to, and to figure out bar overflow situations. We'll try hit some potential ones too.
Watch for more details.

Yep! 72 days.
It's seems like a lot of time, but hell it's never enough time. So here is the things that we need to get taken care of:
1) Figure out the Bar/Restaurants that we'll be stopping at.
Give me some ideas if you have them.
The one constraint is that SantaCon Chicago 2009 will still be held downtown. Reply to this posting or send me your suggestions: santa@santaconchicago.com
